More Important Than Your Outfit
I think many of us would admit that we don’t spend as much time as we’d like with those dear to our hearts. For me, it’s my grandmother. When I was a child, my grandma and I enjoyed time together frequently throughout the year. As an adult, I see my grandma once or twice each year at large family gatherings. It’s been a while since we’ve had quality one-on-one time. I miss it.
Earlier this year, my mother and I realized we haven’t had extended family photographs taken since I was a toddler. Photos are not the norm in our family. We’re usually so wrapped up doing things together that we don’t think to capture the moment on camera. For Mother’s Day we decided to make time to have pictures taken together - grandma, mom, and me. We not only intend to treasure these photos but hope they will remind us to spend more time together.
My mom, my grandma...I love these women. They inspired my love of gardening, knitting, sewing, and flower arranging. They instilled in me a love of literature and of creating pleasant guest rooms. Most importantly they taught me to be thankful, kind, and considerate. This year, I've committed to spending more time with my family --not only as “family” but as the good friends we are.
In preparation for our Mother’s Day photos, I purchased necklaces from ABLE, engraved with the phrases “my daughter,” “my mother,” and “grandmother” in French. The next time you’re searching for a thoughtful gift, I highly recommend ABLE’s ethically made jewelry which can be customized in a way that is meaningful to you.
My hope is that seeing our photos might instill in you a desire to spend time with those you love --friends or family.
